One-tank trip to the Florida Everglades

Where can you go on one-tank of gas? Plenty of places around the Sunshine State! Florida is rich with history, back roads and unique destinations missed by the daily commuter. In this series of blog posts we will highlight different areas one can travel in a 150-200 mile radius from Southwest Florida, given the average car can travel 350-400 miles on one tank of gas.

I encourage you to not look at these trips with only a destination in mind. Too much of our driving is to get somewhere and we miss the joy in the journey. So, get out there and enjoy our beautiful home, Florida. Maybe you will rediscover the appeal that draws so visitors to our state each year.

One of my favorite places to visit with a round-trip tank full is the Florida Everglades. Whether you take Interstate 75, State Route 29 or U.S. 41, all points lead to the Sea of Grass. Along Tamiami Trail (south of Naples) are great places that show Florida’s history. Whether you take in the culture of the true native Floridians at the Seminole Tribe Villages, see alligator wrestling or ride in one of the Airboat Tours, you get an idea of how vast, beautiful and vital this part of Florida is to our well being. The National Park Exhibit and visiting the town of Everglades City are always great one-tank adventures. Not to mention, the seafood in Everglades City is excellent!
